The Vigilance directorate took immediate action, registering a case under Section-7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018. A trap was laid and the accused doctor was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe. The entire amount was recovered from his possession and seized.

The Vigilance officials caught him with unaccounted cash worth Rs 5.4 lakh while he was returning home from Golamunda block in his vehicle. They seized the vehicle and took him to Nabarangpur for further questioning. Two other teams also conducted raids at his house and another location. It is suspected that the amount was a bribe collected by Rout as a public servant from contractors who were working on various developmental projects in the panchayat area.
