In a remarkable display of teamwork and bravery, emergency services have been praised for their swift response in rescuing a man who suffered a frightening accident on a beach in Victoria. The man, who was walking his three dogs at Levy's Point Coastal Reserve in Warrnambool, found himself in a terrifying situation when his dogs ran down a steep 30-metre sand dune, pulling him along with them. The incident took place at approximately 7:50 am on Wednesday morning.

Sadly, the man sustained serious injuries as a result of the fall, breaking both of his legs. Fire Rescue Victoria was alerted to the situation and quickly sprang into action. Fortunately, a joint effort by Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police, and SES crews was able to successfully rescue the man, despite concerns about the safety of the dune and the possibility of it collapsing on emergency personnel.

Adding to the already perilous situation, the man had fallen near the ocean, with powerful waves crashing into him. This made it even more urgent for rescue crews to reach him, as he was stranded and unable to move his legs. The heroic responders were able to park their vehicles at a nearby car park and utilized an SES 6-wheel Polaris off-road vehicle to get as close to the scene as possible.

From there, the dedicated crews had to navigate through thick bushland and treacherous sand to reach the injured man. Thankfully, Victoria Police were able to pull the man away from the water and keep him safe until rescue crews arrived. Once the man was safely secured, he was airlifted by a Victoria Ambulance helicopter and taken to the hospital for further treatment.

FRV Acting Commissioner Greg Kinross commended the tremendous effort put forth by all parties involved in the rescue. He explained, "The police took the lead, FRV crews carried equipment and looked after the dogs, the SES drove the vehicle and Ambulance Victoria paramedics tended to the patient. It was truly a team effort."

The man's quick thinking also played a crucial role in the successful outcome of this harrowing ordeal. Acting Commissioner Kinross shared, "Fortunately, the man had his phone on him and was a local, so he was able to provide us with accurate information about his location." He went on to say, "This was an incredible example of all agencies working together to achieve a positive result for the patient. It's heartwarming to see such dedication and collaboration in the face of a challenging situation."
