Will we ever see the charming Adam Barton grace our screens in Emmerdale once again? It's been six long years since we last caught a glimpse of him in the village, but the longing for his return still echoes loudly - now even his former on-screen love interest, Isabel Hodgins, is adding her voice to the chorus.
Isabel, who portrays Victoria Sugden on the beloved ITV soap, recently shared her hopes of Adam reprising his role, admitting that it would bring her great joy. "I would adore it if he did come back," she expressed to The Agency. "I enjoyed working with him. I love him as a person."
Her fondness for Adam is evident, as she fondly reminisces about their time together on set. "I also really believed in Adam and Victoria's relationship, and I really liked my engagement ring. I miss wearing it," she laughs. "We had so much fun, it didn't feel like work. So, if he were to make a comeback, I would be overjoyed."
However, it may not be as simple as just having Adam stroll back into the village. The character left in 2018 after confessing to the murder of Emma Barton, in an attempt to protect his mother Moira who had actually committed the crime. Returning to Emmerdale could potentially land him in prison, but Adam himself hasn't completely shut the door on the idea.
During a recent conversation with The Agency, the actor expressed his love for the show and its significance in his life. "I'd like to go back one day, it'll always hold a special place in my heart," he revealed. "I was a kid when I joined, so I have some amazing memories there and I'd love to go back one day. I think my mom and family are still in it, and they've left the door open for me... you never know."
While Adam's sudden departure and other cast members leaving have left Victoria with a smaller on-screen family in recent years, that's all about to change. In the coming month, a mysterious new Sugden will make their debut in the village.
Former Coronation Street star Oliver Farnworth will be taking on the role of John Sugden, and Isabel couldn't be more thrilled to have a new family member to work with. "The Sugdens are such an important family, but we're really dwindling in numbers," she shares. "So, it's nice to have another member of the team on board and fly the Sugden flag."
Don't forget to tune in to Emmerdale weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
