A father recently had a frightening experience on K'gari when his two-year-old son was bitten by a dingo. The incident occurred at a carpark near Lake McKenzie as the family was preparing to leave. It was around 2:45 pm yesterday when the father noticed a dingo lurking on the right side of their car.
Feeling protective of his family, the father quickly urged them to get into the safety of the car's left side. The dingo then made its way to the other side of the road before suddenly darting towards the front of the vehicle. It was then that the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service stepped in to explain the events that took place.
According to them, the dingo bit the young boy on his right thigh before the father bravely chased it away. Thankfully, the child only suffered two bite wounds which were promptly treated. The family then made their way to Eurong where they reported the incident to the rangers. They then proceeded to Kingfisher Resort for further medical attention.
While the family received the necessary care, parks and wildlife rangers launched a search for the untagged female dingo responsible for the attack. In the meantime, visitors and residents are being reminded to stay vigilant at all times. This means keeping children close by, avoiding walking alone, and having a stick handy as a precaution.
In case of any negative dingo encounters, it is crucial to report them immediately to a QPWS ranger. They can be reached by calling 07 4127 9150 or emailing
[email protected]. Let's all hope that this incident serves as a reminder to always be cautious and respectful of the beautiful wildlife on K'gari.
