It's hard to imagine the immense physical challenge of singing while wearing one of those heavy costumes on The Masked Singer UK. The show's costume designer recently revealed which celebrity has the heaviest costume, and it's a wonder that they haven't collapsed on stage yet.

Out of the remaining five contestants on this season's ITV show - Bear, Bush, Dressed Crab, Pufferfish, and Wolf - Dressed Crab has been a standout performer from the start. Their renditions of Lean On Me, Let's Groove, and Are You Gonna Go My Way have wowed the audience.

In a recent interview with Metro, costume designer Tim Simpson, who is also the creative director of Plunge Creations, shared more details about Dressed Crab's elaborate costume. With ornate red ruffles from top to bottom in a flamenco dress-style, it's no surprise that this character has the heaviest costume of the season, weighing in at an impressive 14kg. To put that into perspective, that's about the weight of a medium-sized dog, several gallons of milk, or two hefty bowling balls.

Tim also mentioned that Dressed Crab's costume requires a lot of strength from the performer. The large crinoline frame that comes up to their chest, along with the heavy fabric, makes it quite a feat to wear and perform in. Even the pincers, with their movement, add extra weight to the performer's arms.

Despite not knowing which celebrity was hiding inside Dressed Crab's costume during its creation, Tim admires the energy and strength that the performer must have to sing and dance while wearing it without collapsing on stage. He also noted that none of the contestants have fainted or complained about the weight or restrictions of their costumes.

In a previous season, Tim revealed that Knitting, who turned out to be Steps singer Claire Richards, had the heaviest costume of that year, weighing in at about 20kg. The costume was also made with just under 350 meters of wool. And in the season before that, Westlife's Mark Feehily had the challenging task of performing in the heavy Robobunny costume, which Tim described as "quite a formidable thing" to wear.

Not only do the contestants have to deal with the weight and restrictions of their costumes, but they also have to bring their characters to life and sing with limited vision and movement. Tim praised the performers for their dedication and ability to make their characters come alive on stage. The Masked Singer UK airs on Saturday nights on ITV1 and ITVX.
