A black woman on the FBI's Top 10 Most Wanted List was located and arrested in Florida.

A woman, identified as KaShawn Nicola Roper, has been taken into custody by the FBI in Florida after being on the agency's Top Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. Prior to her arrest, Roper had been under close watch by the FBI, who had issued a public warning for people to be on the lookout for her. She has been linked to a shooting incident in Kansas City, Missouri in 2020, where she allegedly fired shots at a car and fatally wounded one of the women inside.

Reports from 11Alive have revealed that Roper has been charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon by authorities. However, she had managed to evade capture for several years until now. In 2021, a federal arrest warrant was issued for Roper on a separate charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

This new information also revealed her ties to Georgia, prompting authorities to urge residents to come forward with any information if they spot her. Despite the efforts of law enforcement, Roper remained at large, prompting the FBI's Most Wanted team to offer a reward of up to $1,000,000 for any information leading to her arrest. Her FBI Most Wanted poster revealed that she had been using various aliases and had connections in several states.

In addition to her real name, she also went by the names Nicole or Nicola and adopted the last name Shaw. Investigators believed she would try to escape to other states, including Kansas, Nebraska, Texas, Colorado, and South Dakota. After years of searching, Roper was finally apprehended in a surprising turn of events.

On April 10, FBI agents in Jacksonville, working alongside local officers and U.S. Marshals, located and detained Roper in High Springs, Florida. This unexpected arrest marks the end of a long pursuit for the fugitive.

Now that she is in custody, Roper may finally face prosecution for the alleged crime, bringing closure to the victims and their families. This news comes after a recent Department of Justice report criticized the FBI for their handling of the Jan. 6 insurrection, further highlighting the importance of swift and effective law enforcement.
