Kim was on a mission. A mission to get revenge. It was all because of what had happened in Emmerdale's Home Farm a few weeks ago. It was unthinkable. Kim Tate, the queen of Home Farm, had been forced to move out to the B&B. Why? Because she had been falsely accused of spiking her step-daughter Dawn Fletcher's drink. It was a difficult situation for Kim to deal with, but actress Claire King, who plays Kim, had shared that she hopes this is only temporary. She loves working with the rest of her Home Farm family, after all.
Claire had said, "I think there'll probably be a bit of War of the Roses going on, which could be good for us to have a bit of that sparring. But we like working together anyway, as actors, so you can get into your own little families. And you know how each other works and you know the systems and we enjoy that. We've got a good little team at Home Farm so we'd like to keep that together."
But things have changed since then. Viewers have seen a softer side of Kim as she's become close to Dawn, Billy Fletcher, and their children. This is why she initially lied to cover for Billy when he broke the social distancing rules to protect baby Evan. Kim feared that the truth would damage their relationship. Claire had shared that she likes this new side to Kim. "It's been lovely to do because for a time, it was all hard, hard, hard and knock-backs and put-downs and one-liners and bitchy and sniping and revenge - which is great and it's more fun to play, really. But you do have to have a balance otherwise the character can get a bit stale and a bit one-dimensional. I know she's got quite a few dimensions to her now so it's it is a lot better, but it's been good to have that other side to it."
But there are still tensions between Kim and Dawn, as the latter believes that Kim was the one who spiked her drink. However, Claire explained that Kim is being a good girl and has chosen to cover for Billy. "They will make up and I think she does see Dawn as a daughter and does try and protect her. And obviously she's got close to her step-grandkids."
There's also the issue of Kim's biological grandchild Thomas, and his mother Gabby. They have moved out of Home Farm to protect baby Evan, but Kim feels the loss deeply. "Oh, she's gutted about that because obviously he's her true grandson. And she's very close to Gabby, she does see her as a daughter, but realizes this is for Evan's sake. Like everything else that's going on."
Kim hasn't had any scenes with Rosie Bentham recently, as the latter's character Rose has disappeared. When asked about this, Claire laughed and said, "I haven't seen Rosie, apart from in the dressing room just now, for months!" So Kim is unaware of the romance brewing between Gabby and Vinny Dingle. "I have no idea, and Kim has no idea, what's going on with Vinny but I'm sure she'll be happy for them...eventually! But yeah, a Dingle isn't the best match..."
Claire has enjoyed the fact that the storyline about Evan's leukemia has allowed for some deep emotional scenes. She likes the contrast between that and Kim's camp and drama. "That's one thing we always have in Home Farm, we have that balance. So we can have all the camp and drama going on but there's also underlying stories that are quite serious and heartbreaking as well. We're hoping, obviously, this has a good happy ending. Who knows in soap? But we're hopeful."
But thankfully, Kim's departure from Home Farm didn't last too long. She quickly worked out the plan that Rose and Ruby were cooking up. Kim made her way back to Home Farm and told Rose that she would be leaving. However, in the scenes that followed, the ITV soap confirmed that Rose hadn't left the village for a new life elsewhere, and is still missing to this day.
Because Kim and other prime suspect Will weren't revealing much to each other about their potential involvement, Kim decided she needed space from the Dales and announced she was off to Dubai for a business trip. But this week, concern started to grow for Will. He had been texting and calling Kim constantly since she had been away, but hadn't received a response. Has something happened to her? Only time will tell.
