Zoo has announced the name of its rare spotless giraffe calf - Ajabu.
Animal lovers around the world were captivated when a spotless giraffe was born at Brights Zoo in Limestone, Tennessee. This baby giraffe, now five weeks old, was born with a solid brown-colored coat instead of the species's signature spots, making her the only known reticulated giraffe in the world without spots.

The zoo presented four names for fans to vote on: Firyali which means extraordinary or unusual, Jamella which means one of great beauty, Kipekee which means unique in Swahili, and Shakiri which means she is most beautiful. After counting close to 40,000 votes, Kipekee won and was revealed live on NBC's TODAY show.

The last known spotless giraffe was born in 1972 in Tokyo, according to the zoo's director David Bright. A keeper at London Zoo's Giraffe House last month told The Agency that the then-unnamed calf was 'certainly the first we've ever heard of' with a spotless coat. He added that it appeared to be genetic, saying "A giraffe's coat is like a fingerprint, it's unique, and it passes down from the giraffe's parents."

At six feet tall already, Kipekee is described by Bright as "very laid back, curious about everything, and checking everything out every day." She was immediately accepted by her fellow giraffes at the zoo and the best time to see her is early in the day as she tends to like to get in shade around 1 or 2 each day.

Kipekee has captured the hearts of animal lovers across the US and world and is inspiring people everywhere with her unique story.
