Workers from a few different sectors will be striking today, including Ofsted workers, National Express drivers, and university staff. More than 3,000 members of Unite, employed by the coach operator in the West Midlands, are continuing the walkout after rejecting an offer of a 14.3% pay raise. The strike, which began at 10.30pm on Sunday, will affect roughly 93% of the bus network. Unite has stated that the offer includes 'more strings attached than a grand piano' and that National Express's scheduled white coaches should not be impacted. Additionally, over 70,000 personnel from 150 universities are also striking today.

Last month, more than 5,000 people went on strike and the current strikes are taking place even with the hope of a breakthrough on pay, working conditions, and pensions. Members of the University and College Union are being balloted again on the dispute, which may cause disruption for the rest of the academic year. Ofsted members working in the Applications, Regulatory and Contact team, as well as the Inspection Support Centre, are also walking out due to pay, pensions, job security, and redundancy terms.
