Three women recently shared their horrifying experience after being lured into a human trafficking scheme and then returning home. According to them, there are at least 100 women being held captive on a 'human egg farm' in Georgia by the traffickers.
The three women, who are from Thailand, revealed that they had responded to advertisements on social media for surrogate mothers. The ads promised them a monthly payment of £600 while living with the client family in a foreign country. However, upon arriving, they were taken to a house where they found 60 to 70 other Thai women. These women informed them that there were no contracts or parents involved, as promised in the advertisement.
To their shock, the women were told that they would be injected, anesthetized, and their eggs would be extracted using a machine. Realizing that this was not what they had signed up for, the women became scared and tried to contact their families back home. It is believed that the traffickers were selling the harvested eggs on the black market for use in in-vitro fertilization treatments.
The traffickers also confiscated the women's passports and threatened to have them arrested if they tried to leave. The women, however, managed to come up with a plan to pretend to be ill to avoid having their eggs harvested. One of the women, who spoke at a press conference, revealed that she and 10 others were taken to Georgia through Dubai and Armenia by a Thai woman. They were then met by two Chinese nationals upon their arrival in Georgia.
Another woman, who was released in September, shared that she had to pay the traffickers £1,660 before being allowed to return to Thailand. The Pavena Foundation, which helps trafficked women and children, confirmed that 100 more women are still being held captive in Georgia. The foundation also stated that in 2024, 257 Thai people were victims of human trafficking, with 53 of them being found in Thailand and 204 in other countries. They have managed to rescue 152 of them so far.
The authorities in Georgia and Thailand have launched investigations into this horrific incident. It is a reminder that human trafficking is a serious crime that affects many innocent lives. Let us all work together to put an end to this heinous act and bring justice to the victims.
