Maisie-Jade Thornton was a much-loved 14-year-old girl from Accrington, Lancashire, who was diagnosed with epilepsy four years ago. Despite having a number of seizures, she was still able to enjoy a happy Christmas surrounded by her family, including dad Stewart Thornton and step-mum Mel Stott.
Her auntie Kelly Hodgson remembers Maisie-Jade's Christmas fondly. She said, "We had 13 or 14 family members over for Christmas Day. Maisie-Jade really enjoyed herself and was happy with all her presents. I've got a picture of her smiling."
Unfortunately, two days after Christmas, Maisie-Jade passed away in her sleep, likely due to a seizure. Kelly said, "We called her 'Moo', the whole family did. She was just so nice and caring and she would do anything for anyone. She was always smiling, always."
Kelly has created a GoFundMe page towards Maisie-Jade's funeral, which has raised over £6,000 so far. She said, "It's amazing. We're just so overwhelmed at people's generosity and support. We're a big family anyway, but I'm just overwhelmed by how much it's been shared."
Tributes have poured in for the teen, including from her dad Stewart who said, "We will always love and miss her." Those attending Maisie-Jade's funeral will wear purple in honour of her favourite colour.
