Women’s commission seeks intervention of NCW & DCW
The city of Bhubaneswar was rocked by news of a disturbing incident – a 34-year-old woman from Puri was allegedly gang-raped in Delhi. The Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW) took notice of this matter and on Tuesday, urged the National Commission for Women (NCW) and Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) to conduct a thorough investigation and share their findings within 15 days.

The chairperson of OSCW, Minati Behera, expressed her concern and stated that since the incident took place in Delhi, it was crucial for the NCW and DCW to take charge and ensure a fair and speedy probe. She also personally took up the matter and promised to do everything in her power to ensure justice for the survivor.

In light of the severity of the case, the Odisha Police's IG, Crime Against Women and Children Wing, S Shyni, along with a relative of the survivor, traveled to New Delhi on the directions of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The CM, upon his return from Keonjhar, had instructed Shyni to visit the survivor at AIIMS Delhi and inquire about her well-being.

The CM also assured the Delhi Police of the state government's full support and cooperation in the investigation. The Director General of Police, YB Khurania, personally contacted the Delhi Commissioner of Police to enquire about the progress of the case.

However, amidst all this, the opposition party BJD accused the state's BJP government of not providing any assistance to the rape survivor. The state government, on the other hand, clarified that they have been closely monitoring the case with utmost seriousness and sensitivity.

The survivor was found in a semi-conscious state in the Sarai Kale Khan area of Delhi on October 11. After being alerted by passersby, the police admitted her to AIIMS where it was discovered that she had been sexually assaulted. An FIR has been filed against unknown perpetrators under Sections 70 (gangrape) and 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the BNS at Sunlight Colony police station, as confirmed by a senior officer from the Southeast district of Delhi Police.
