Michelle Lespron was horrified when she returned home from her holiday in Nashville and found a large, hissing snake in her toilet. The black and pink-coloured coachwhip snake had somehow made its way into her home in the Catalina Foothills area of Tucson, Arizona, US.
Rather than trying to catch the snake herself, Michelle called in the help of experts, Rattlesnake Solutions. It took handler Nick three visits over two days to capture the elusive reptile. A video shows him bursting into the bathroom and quickly grabbing the snake before it bares its fangs and hisses at the camera.
Michelle was full of admiration for Nick's snake-catching skills and proclaimed him her 'hero'. According to Rattlesnake Solutions, it's unusual for coachwhips to make their way into toilets. The firm's owner Bryan Hughes described the coachwhip snake as 'fast and intelligent' and joked that Michelle now had 'the most famous toilet since Elvis'.
Michelle said it took her a while before she was able to use the toilet again, even though she knew the snake had been removed. She said she always flushes the toilet before sitting down, and her father had installed screens around the roof openings to keep snakes and other animals out.
Local residents remarked on the beauty of the snake, with one commenting: 'That is an incredibly beautiful snake - I've never heard of it, but wow it's so exotic looking!' Others shared her horror, with one exclaiming: 'I always look before I sit!'
The incident comes after a 64-year-old Texas woman was attacked by a hawk and a snake at the same time. Peggy Jones was mowing her lawn when a snake suddenly fell on top of her and wrapped itself around her arm. The hawk then swooped down moments later and snatched the snake from her arm, leaving her bloodied and covered in bruises and deep lacerations.
