The Range, Wilko's new owner, has announced that five Wilko stores will be returning to the high street before Christmas. Three of these stores will be located in Plymouth, Exeter and Luton, and they will be opening on the following dates:
Plymouth – Unit A, Armada Centre, Mayflower Street, PL1 1QL – December 1
Exeter – Unit 100, Guildhall Shopping Centre, EX4 3HP – December 1
Luton – 141/147 Arndale Centre, LU1 2TN – December 8
The other two stores will open before Christmas, but the location and date hasn't been confirmed yet. CDS Superstores, the owner of The Range, plans to hire up to 80 local staff per store, giving ex-Wilko employees priority for interviews. Each store will be stocked with Wilko products and major brands, so customers will be able to purchase everyday home and garden items.
CDS Superstores Chief Executive Alex Simpkin said: "It's clear that there's a huge love for Wilko and we're proud to confirm we'll be re-introducing the brand to high streets in Plymouth, Exeter and Luton in the coming weeks. We're also glad to be bringing employment opportunities to these towns and for helping local families and communities have easy access to all the everyday home and garden items they need once again."
Simpkin also mentioned that this initial rollout is only the beginning of their plans to revitalise Wilko on the nation's high streets and retail parks. Sources say that after these five stores open, more will follow next year across the UK.
It's great news that Wilko is returning to the high street and it will definitely bring a lot of joy to shoppers who have been missing the brand. We can't wait to see what else The Range has in store for Wilko in the future.
