Will you be picking up a bargain today? It's Black Friday, and I've got £400 to spend. I'm thinking of getting a new console, either an Xbox Series X or a Nintendo Switch. But the decision has been tough. An Xbox won't give me access to any new games, so I'd have to upgrade my PC if I chose this option. On the other hand, the Switch would give me access to dozens of games I can't play on other systems, but I don't have much of an emotional connection to them.
People will tell me to save the money, but I can't help but feel the urge to buy something. I think I'm going to get the Switch in the end.
The Friday letters page discussed Rockstar and their stance on not allowing their developers to become famous. I can't understand why they do this. What harm could it do to let people know the creators of the games? It's not like it's going to ruin their sales. Knowing that they've forced someone to close down their blog is a bit worrying. It makes Rockstar look even worse.
I made a mistake of downloading the Sony Pictures app on my PlayStation 5 and watching the first two episodes of Silent Hill: Ascension. It was beyond terrible. Everything about it was execrable. Poor animation, bad dialogue, lip syncing errors, incomprehensible motivation, and the list goes on and on. It's truly a shame that this is how the series returned. I dread to think what the remake of Silent Hill 2 will be like.
So, I finally took the plunge and got a PlayStation 5 on Black Friday. The deal was too good to pass up and I'm feeling a bit mixed about it. I may write a Reader's Feature about my experience if GC will allow it.
Finally, Penfold's Thursday inbox letter made me question the choices of developers to work on the Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic remake. I'm pretty sure those choices weren't serious. Koei Tecmo are the ones that make those shonky and mindless licensed button mashers, so this has to be sarcasm.
Hopefully, GTA 6 is going to be worth the wait.
Will you be picking up a bargain today? With Black Friday here, it's the perfect time for Vern to make a decision on what to get. He's got £400 to spend and is torn between either getting an Xbox Series X or a Switch.
The Xbox is a great choice as it won't require any upgrades to his gaming PC, but the caveat is that he won't be able to gain access to any new games. The Switch, on the other hand, provides access to dozens of games, but Vern has never owned a Nintendo console before and has no emotional connection to them. Plus, the Switch could be replaced by the Switch 2 next year.
While most people would advise Vern to just save the money, he feels an urge to spend it. He's leaning towards the Switch, but will see how things go today.
Meanwhile, the Friday letters page is uncomfortable with Rockstar not allowing its developers to become famous, as readers anticipate the GTA 6 trailer. Gordo, in particular, doesn't buy Rockstar's excuse for why they let any of their developers get any publicity. He believes that Rockstar just wants to keep them chained to their desk without getting any idea about being famous. Gordo is also unhappy that Rockstar forced the guy to shut down his blog, as he saw no harm in the guy telling us they were working on a zombie game 20 years ago.
Wonk, on the other hand, has a confession to make. He downloaded the Sony Pictures app on his PlayStation 5 and then watched the first two episodes of Silent Hill: Ascension. Despite knowing that it was bad, he was curious and watched it anyway. He found that nearly everything in it was execrable: from not being remotely scary to woeful animation and ugly art direction. He has no intention of being fleeced of cash for it, and is dreading what the remake of Silent Hill 2 will be like.
Finally, Ranger Singh jumped in and bought a PlayStation 5 with Spider-Man 2 bundled for £399. His thoughts are mixed, and he might write a Reader's Feature about his experience.
Mitchell, on the other hand, is none the wiser about Penfold's Thursday inbox letter choices of developers to work on the Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic remake, as he feels that Lies Of P selling a shedload doesn't make it a good game or equate to its developer being talented enough to do Knights Of The Old Republic justice.
Scott, Fort William has a unique idea for how the world premiere of GTA 6 should be announced at this year's Games Awards. He suggests that Bill Clinton rushes the stage and is escorted away, before Geoff Keighley announces the world premiere. All they need is Rockstar to pay Clinton 50 quid to play his part, and Scott will accept a tenner for his idea.
