Viewers were collectively retching over the gross pet food taste testing challenge that was the focus of the new reality show Rise and Fall, which tested its contestants to the limit.

The Grafters put themselves up to the challenge of eating food off pet food plates with the aim of raising money for the series’ collective prize fund.

In a production line type setting, the Grafters had to consume everything on the plates as they passed by before they reached the end of the conveyor belt, ranging from biscuits to chunks of beef in gravy for large dogs.

The amount banked for the prize fund on the show, hosted by Greg James, increased with each bigger portion of dog and cat food, starting at £1000 for the first plate of dog biscuits.

The number of plates the Grafters had to eat during the Work Shift was decided by the Rulers, with newly elevated Ruler Marina, 18, pushing for her former fellow Grafters to be tested, meaning they faced four plates in total: dog biscuits, vegetarian dog food, seaweed and herring cat food and lamb and liver dog food in jelly.

Connor, Jack and James did their best to clear the plates of their contents, though the audience at home found this challenge on the Channel 4 show especially unpleasant.

‘I’d have smashed that eating… wasn’t sat here heaving from just watching at all,’ tweeted one fan sarcastically.

Another bluntly added: ‘I’m going to be sick myself watching #RiseandFall tonight.’

‘I can’t bear this,’ moaned a third, while another joked: ‘When I’m feeding my cat I sometimes gag at the smell never mind eating it.’
