UTMC proposes plan to improve traffic mobility in Madhya Pradesh city.
Today, Ujjain is celebrating Guru Purnima at the Sandipani Ashram. Guru Purnima is a festival that honors spiritual and academic teachers, who help their students progress in knowledge and life. To commemorate this special occasion, the Madhya Pradesh government has proposed an investment of Rs 8500 crore to improve the traffic infrastructure of the city in the next 20 years.

The plan was discussed in a meeting chaired by Ujjain Municipal Commissioner Raushan Kumar Singh. The Urban Mass Transit Company (UMTC), which is a part of the tripartite agreement between Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited, Urban Mass Transit Company and Ujjain Municipal Corporation, presented their detailed mobility plan. The plan includes widening of 128 km of selected roads, construction of 120 new roads, and 353 buses that will operate in three phases throughout the city. In addition, 15 smart bus stands, and either an ISBT at Tapobhoomi or a temporary ISBT for Simhastha Fair 2028 will be created.

The UMTC survey revealed that 70 percent of people visit Ujjain mainly through Indore Road. Keeping this in mind, the team proposed a 15 km corridor from Dewasgate Bus Stand and Hari Phatak to Tapobhoomi. As an added convenience, the team has selected 7 routes between residential and commercial areas and proposed 9 auto and e-rickshaw stands. To enhance the pedestrian experience, a 190 km footpath and a 52 km cycle track will be built. The restricted area between Mahakal Lok and Tapobhoomi will be stopped at 8 places and only e-rickshaws and e-scooters operated by the government will be allowed. The team also suggested that green belts and eco-mobility corridors be made, and grain, fruit, flower, and vegetable markets be established on Dewas Road. Finally, smart signals at 22 places, electric vehicle charging stations, and vehicle parking at 37 places will be created.

Overall, the proposals by the UMTC team will ensure that Ujjain is equipped with the latest traffic infrastructure and has a convenient and safe transport system. This will make it easier for people to visit Ujjain and experience its rich culture and heritage. As we celebrate Guru Purnima, the Madhya Pradesh government is taking steps to ensure that the city is ready for the future.
