Unknown illness kills four in Rayagada, Odisha, causing widespread panic.
The people of Rayagada district in Chandrapur are living in fear as an unknown disease has claimed the lives of four individuals in just ten days. The village of Jubagudi in Hanumantapur panchayat, under Chandrapur block, has been hit hard by this mysterious illness. The deceased were identified as Rajendra Dibaka, Anumal Dibaka, Nilu Dibaka, and Dharmi Dibaka, all residents of the village. To make matters worse, eight more individuals have reportedly fallen ill with the same symptoms as of Saturday.

According to the villagers, the patients initially experienced diarrhoea and vomiting, followed by the appearance of small lumps on their bodies, ultimately leading to their untimely deaths. This sudden and alarming pattern has created a sense of panic and fear among the villagers, with more and more people falling victim to this disease.

Upon receiving the news, a medical team was immediately dispatched to Jubagudi village to provide treatment to the affected individuals. The Chief District Medical Officer, Dr. Lal Mohan Routray, informed that the team has collected water and faecal samples from the village for further examination. Jubagudi village, located 27 km away from Chandrapur block, is home to over 100 families, including 19 tribal households. However, the fear of this unknown disease has gripped the village, disrupting the peaceful lives of its residents.

The first person to fall ill was Rajendra Dibaka, a villager from Jubagudi. He experienced diarrhoea and vomiting, followed by the development of lumps on his body. He was rushed to the district headquarters hospital in Rayagada, where he received treatment and was later discharged. Unfortunately, he passed away soon after. In a tragic turn of events, three more individuals, Anumal Dibaka, Nilu Dibaka, and Dharmi Dibaka, also lost their lives within a span of ten days, all exhibiting similar symptoms.

The village residents are distressed and claim that they have not received proper medical care despite the deaths of four villagers. Some of the patients have resorted to traditional herbal medicine, as there is only one AYUSH doctor available to provide treatment. The CDMO has assured that a medical team has been deployed to the village, and the doctors at the Chandrapur community health centre have been instructed to provide proper care to the affected individuals. Dr. Routray also stated that the reason behind the spread of this disease and other details can only be determined after the reports on the examination of faecal and water samples are available. The safety and well-being of the villagers are of utmost importance, and the authorities are taking necessary measures to contain the spread of this mysterious disease.
