Madikeri, Oct. 31: On the occasion of the birth anniversary of India's first Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Bharatiya Janata Party celebrated Unity Day for the Unity of India.

Former Minister M.P. Appachchu Ranjan and prominent figures launched the yatra at the city's F.M.A. Cariappa Circle by releasing pigeons. Speaking later, Ranjan said that he had dreamed of uniting the divided Indian provinces and building a united India. For this, he had worked to unite all the then kings. However, it could not be done due to the non-cooperation of some. Therefore, in order to realize his dream, the Modi government has declared his birth anniversary as Unity Day, and accordingly, the Unity Day is being celebrated today, he said.

Then a foot march was taken out to J. Thimmaiah Circle. Former Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha K.G. Bopaiah spoke there; Vallabhbhai Patel, who had all the qualifications to become the first Prime Minister of the country, was not given a chance.
