Sports Team, a British band, recently shared a shocking and terrifying experience they had while on tour in California. The indie rock band, made up of vocalist Alex Rice, guitarists and vocalists Rob Knaggs and Henry Young, bassist Oli Dewdney, drummer Al Greenwood, and keyboardist Ben Mack, revealed that they were robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday.
It all happened on the first day of their US tour, as they were driving to Sacramento for their performance. The band was making a quick stop at Starbucks for some coffee when they were alerted that their tour van was being robbed. According to their statement on social media, they lost a lot of personal gear, but luckily their music equipment and instruments were left untouched, allowing them to still perform.
The band shared a video of the incident, which showed the robbers ransacking their van while the band members were inside Starbucks, yelling for everyone to stay inside and get down. Lead singer Alex later spoke to the BBC about the incident, expressing shock at the resignation of those around them. He said, "Obviously, if someone pulls a gun, you run for cover, but the thing that struck me about it was the resignation."
Drummer Al added, "Somebody opened the door and was like, does anybody have a white Sprinter van? Because you’re being robbed right now." He also shared that their tour manager, Lauren, was nearly caught in the crossfire and they thought they were about to witness someone getting shot.
The band lost personal items, including their passports and clothes, but luckily their musical equipment was left behind. "We’re going to be wearing the same things for the next two weeks," Lauren shared, also mentioning that her journal was taken, which she found to be one of the worst parts of the whole ordeal.
Despite the traumatic experience, the band plans to continue their tour and will be returning to the Bay Area on Saturday night. They also expressed their shock at how nonchalant the people around them seemed to be about the whole situation. The group has had two top ten albums in the UK and was promoting their upcoming third album, Boys These Days.
As of now, the band has not received any official comment from the LAPD. If you have any information about the incident, please reach out to the band or the authorities. And if you have any celebrity stories, videos, or pictures, don't hesitate to contact the entertainment team at The Agency. They would love to hear from you.
