In the Koraput district of Odisha, officials have reported two cases of anthrax on Friday. The individuals, who are from Padaiguda village in Koraput block, are currently receiving treatment at SLN Medical College and Hospital. According to officials, the outbreak is linked to a feast that took place on June 14, where at least 10 families consumed meat from a cattle that had died from anthrax.
As a precautionary measure, 410 people from the village were screened and six of them had their blood samples sent for laboratory tests. Two of the samples came back positive for anthrax, as confirmed by Muktikanta Khatua, the Additional District Public Health and Medical Officer. However, Khatua assured that the patients are currently in a stable condition.
