Travelers describe urgent flight from fire-ravaged villas in Seminyak, Bali.
A group of Australian tourists recently shared their harrowing experience of escaping a fire that took over a hotel in Seminyak, a popular tourist area in Bali. The incident occurred on Thursday night around 9:30pm, and unfortunately, 19 villas at the Villa Amaysa complex were destroyed in the blaze.

One of the tourists, a woman from Melbourne, recounted how she was forced to jump from the roof of the burning hotel into the arms of people waiting below. Alana Capo and her partner had very little time to spare as the flames quickly engulfed the villa next door. With the only exit route being through the fire, they had to quickly find another way out. Capo shared, "The exit to go out to the main street was in between the villas - so it was either run through the fire or find another way out."

The fire spread rapidly through the thatched roofs of the villas, and the couple had no choice but to climb through a small gap onto a shed roof overlooking a rice paddy. Capo described the terrifying moments, saying, "We were waving our phones, screaming for help, help, help. These locals just came and basically, we jumped off the roof - about four or five meters - and they caught us."

Another tourist, Rod Blitvich from Perth, mentioned that the hotel workers did their best to put out the fire. He said, "We saw them hose out a fire on a thatched roof." Similarly, Shirley Venter, another tourist, shared how her friends had to return to the villa to save her while she was sleeping, unaware of the danger. She recalled, "My friend said, 'My friend's sleeping.' They were going to leave me there. I was sleeping, I didn't even know it was happening."

Venter returned to the hotel the next day to try and salvage her belongings, but unfortunately, according to Kuta police spokesman Anggi Wahyu Romadhoni, 19 out of the 20 buildings in the complex were destroyed. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and thankfully, no one was harmed in the incident.
