Tragic death of motorcyclist at dangerous intersection devastates community.
A peaceful evening ride turned into a tragic incident as a man was flung over 15 meters from his motorcycle in the north-western part of Perth. It happened at the intersection of Hepburn Avenue and Walter Padbury Boulevard in Padbury, Joondalup at around 11pm on Friday. The collision involved a black motorcycle and a silver hatchback. While the driver of the hatchback was fortunate enough to walk away unharmed, the 47-year-old rider was not as lucky and lost his life at the scene.

According to some locals who spoke to 9News, this particular intersection has gained a reputation for being dangerous. In fact, some have gone to the extent of calling it a "death trap". The community has been advocating for safety measures to be put in place for both pedestrians and motorists for quite some time now. Danny Dellaca, a concerned resident, expressed his disappointment, saying, "It's quite upsetting that someone has died, but what's even more frustrating is that it could have been avoided. We've reached out to the state government, main roads and the City of Joondalup, but it seems like nothing has been done. Sadly, this tragedy doesn't come as a surprise to me."

Anita Catalano, another local, shared similar sentiments. "It's a tragedy, really. We've been pleading for some sort of traffic control, whether it's lights or a roundabout, for a long time now," she said. As a result of this heartbreaking incident, The City of Joondalup has announced that construction of a roundabout will commence next year.

Unfortunately, this was not the only road accident that occurred in Western Australia on Friday night. Two other crashes took place, bringing the state's road death toll to 169 fatalities, which is the second-highest in the past decade. As the investigation into this particular collision continues, the police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
