Ken has recently returned from a holiday to Porto with his carer, Cassie Plummer, who has been looking after him since his health took a turn earlier this year. However, Ken's family has become increasingly concerned that Cassie is taking advantage of his wealth.
After winning £50k in a lottery, Ken and Cassie went on a luxury getaway, leaving Ken's finances drained. Realising that he can no longer afford to keep Cassie as his carer, Ken decides to let her go, much to the relief of his family. However, when he falls ill again, he offers to pay Cassie an extra pound an hour to stay on as his carer.
Tracy is furious at her father's decision and, with the support of her ex-husband Steve McDonald and Ken's son Adam Barlow, she confronts Cassie and demands that she leave. But when Ken's health takes a turn for the worse and he is rushed to the hospital, the family must come together to support him.
Meanwhile, Steve begins to suspect that Cassie may have been manipulating Ken and his spending. As the family tries to unravel the truth, they wonder if their suspicions about Cassie are correct.
