Tim Sherwood says Raphael Varane has not contributed anything since joining Man U.
Tim Sherwood has had some harsh words for Manchester United star Raphael Varane, claiming he has 'no durability' and 'has done nothing' since joining the club. It's been a poor start to the season for United, with six defeats from 11 games in all competitions so far.

Sherwood believes United lack a clear playing style under current manager Erik ten Hag and feels youngster Hannibal Mejbri has set the standard for the team's senior players to follow in terms of effort level required during games.

"Basically what they're doing is under Ten Hag buying a load of superstars and hoping that they perform," said Sherwood. "They haven't got a clear style of play, I don't see any patterns, any structure, all I see is throwing a group of players out onto the pitch, see where they land and hoping one of the superstars pulls you out of the mire, and that's exactly what has happened."

Sherwood also expressed his thoughts on the importance of certain players for the team. "Someone like Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford - they need to look at some of these kids who are coming in who really appreciate the opportunity to get onto the pitch and they start pulling a finger out. I mean, that that's [McTominay] not a superstar that's a kid who really wants to play for the badge."

Sherwood believes that ten Hag is taking United backwards and the team needs to find their identity and more penetration to their play. He also pointed out that the team's victory over Brentford papered over the cracks and that the manager should still be under pressure.

"He's not a good manager because McTominay scores two injury-time goals, it doesn't make him a good or bad manager," said Sherwood. "If they would have made their decision to get rid of Ten Hag if they didn't win that football match, they should still get rid of him. I like managers losing their jobs but he has to show progression, he has to show the club is moving forward, at the moment it's moving but it's going backwards."
