Tiger Kills Calf in Forest Area

Ponnampet, Oct 5: Tiger attacks on livestock continue in South Kodagu; a farmer's calf fell victim to a tiger attack in Sulugodu village, Ponnampet taluk.

The tiger killed a calf belonging to Nirmala Madhu of Sulugodu village.

On the evening of the 5th, around 4 PM, the tiger attacked and killed the calf while it was grazing in a paddy field near the trench bordering the Sulugodu forest. While dragging the carcass towards the forest, the calf fell into the trench. Hearing the commotion of people nearby, the tiger reportedly crossed the trench, waited briefly near a bush at the forest edge, and then retreated into the forest.

Locals captured footage of the tiger sitting in the bush on their mobile phones.

Speaking to 'Shakti' about the incident, RFO Gangadhar stated that the tiger has since returned to the forest, and a camera has been installed at the site to monitor its movements. Once the tiger is identified, senior officials will be informed, and further action will be taken. He added that the department would provide appropriate compensation to the farmer who lost the calf. The incident has caused anxiety among the residents of Sulugodu and surrounding areas. DRFOs Rakshit and Somendra, Beat Guard Dinesh, STPF Guard Hanumanthappa, and Sulugodu camp staff visited the scene, conducted an inspection, and initiated further action.
