Shots were fired close to the entrance of Handsworth Park at around 6pm on Friday, which was met with a large police response. A perimeter was created around the area near Welford Primary School and medical assistance was administered to one of the boys for a gunshot wound to his leg. The other two male victims were then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment for their non-life threatening injuries, one to his foot and the other to his chest. West Midlands Police have started an investigation into the incident and an 18-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of knife possession and is still in custody. Detective Inspector Matt Underwood commented on the situation, urging anyone with information to come forward. Local teams are providing extra patrols for the community for reassurance.
