Three suspects, including the main accused, were taken into custody by police for their involvement in the rape and murder of a woman in Baruipur.

In Kolkata, a senior police officer has confirmed that the West Bengal Police arrested the main suspect in the alleged rape and murder case of a young girl in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas district. This brings the total number of arrested individuals in connection with the case to three. The suspect, identified as Anand Sardar, was apprehended in the afternoon by the Baruipur district police from the town's market area after a thorough search operation.

The officer stated that Sardar, who is believed to be the prime accused, was located and arrested at the Baruipur market area. With his arrest, the total number of persons arrested in relation to this heinous crime has now reached three. The police were able to track down the accused through his mobile phone tower location.

The suspect will be presented before a local court and will be taken into police custody for further questioning. In order to investigate the matter, a six-member Special Investigation Team has been formed. One individual was arrested last night, while another was nabbed this morning.

The police have also detained three other individuals and are currently questioning them for more information. The officer revealed that they were able to gather details about the prime accused's involvement in the crime and his possible location through these individuals. The incident, which took place on July 4, came to light when the girl's body was found stuffed in a sack in Surjyapur Haat area.

This triggered a protest by the locals, who blocked the Baruipur-Joynagar Road, burnt tyres, and damaged police vehicles, demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits. The tension escalated when a man was beaten to death by angry locals on suspicion of his involvement in the girl's death. In order to maintain law and order, the local administration imposed Section 163 of the Indian Penal Code in Baruipur, Narendrapur, and Sonarpur areas of South 24 Parganas.

A senior police officer stated that the situation was under control, but as a preventive measure, prohibitory orders were imposed. Adequate police deployment has been made in the affected areas to ensure the safety of the public. The officer also urged the public not to believe any rumors and to cooperate with the administration.

Strict action will be taken against anyone trying to disturb the peace. The police have now added the charge of gangrape to the case, and the two individuals arrested earlier have been remanded to 14-day police custody by the court. The case has been registered under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The next hearing is scheduled for July 20. The officer revealed that the case was initially registered for kidnapping the minor, but the accused have now been booked under sections of rape, gangrape, murder, destruction of evidence, criminal conspiracy, and kidnapping of a minor. The investigation is still ongoing, and the accused are being questioned to establish the complete sequence of events.

Several forensic procedures are yet to be completed, and custodial interrogation is necessary to verify the sequence of events and determine the role of each individual. Another senior police officer stated that the addition of charges, including gangrape, is based on evidence gathered during the investigation. He assured that the case is being given top priority and every piece of evidence will be examined in accordance with the law.
