In the face of various obstacles and limited resources, three tribal students from Kandhamal district in Odisha, India have achieved a remarkable feat by clearing the NEET medical entrance examination. These three students, namely Sanatan Pradhan, Kalakar Pradhan, and Linsa Pradhan, have proven that determination and hard work can overcome any challenge.
Sanatan Pradhan, a 19-year-old student from Tadimaha village in the tribal-dominated Kandhamal, cracked the prestigious All-India entrance exam on his first attempt. He belongs to the Kondh tribe and his father, Kaneswar Pradhan, is a small farmer. Despite not having any formal coaching, Sanatan managed to secure a seat at the government-run MKCG Medical College in Berhampur.
After completing his Class-X at a government school in Daringbadi, Sanatan moved to Khallikote Junior College in Berhampur for his Class-XII studies. He then returned to his village to prepare for the NEET exam. However, with no internet service in his village, Sanatan had to walk 3-4 kilometers each day and climb a hill to access the internet for his studies. It was a challenging routine, spending hours on the hill every day. Two months before the NEET exam, he came back to Berhampur to focus solely on his preparation, relying on online resources and borrowing books from friends.
Sanatan is determined to become a doctor and serve people in remote areas with limited access to medical facilities. He has shown unwavering commitment in studying sincerely and has conveyed his goal to his family. To secure his seat in the medical college, Sanatan's family had to borrow some money. However, they have planned to seek financial assistance from the state government for his medical education, instead of accepting offers from various bankers for student loans.
The other two successful students, Kalakar Pradhan and Linsa Pradhan, have also overcome difficult circumstances to crack the NEET exam. Kalakar, from Saberenga village under Sinabali panchayat, was preparing for the medical entrance while tending to his herd of cattle and helping with agricultural work. He gathered necessary tips from the social media platform YouTube and cleared the NEET on his second attempt.
Similarly, Linsa, a differently-abled girl from Garjedi village under Badabanga panchayat, also cleared the test on her second attempt. Despite having 70 percent problems in her backbone, Linsa was determined to achieve her dream of becoming a doctor. She prepared for the NEET by collecting materials from online and social media platforms.
These three students have proven that nothing can stop them from achieving their dreams. Their determination, hard work, and resilience have inspired many and serve as a reminder that with dedication and perseverance, anything is possible.
