In Bhubaneswar, a businessman was brutally murdered over 11 years ago. His body was dismembered and scattered across different areas of the city. It was a gruesome and heinous crime that shook the community.
But justice was finally served on Wednesday when a court sentenced three men to life imprisonment for their involvement in the murder. The incident first came to light on November 4th, 2014, when a severed human head was found on the banks of the Daya River near Nathpur village. The Dhauli police station was immediately notified and they launched an investigation.
Along with the head, a black plastic bag containing human facial features, hair, and brain was also discovered at the scene. Through forensic examination and DNA testing, it was confirmed that the remains belonged to the missing businessman, Krutibas Parija, also known as Sonu, from the Khandagiri area. After a thorough investigation and examination of 28 witnesses and evidence, Third Additional District and Sessions Judge Himanshu Sekhar Mallick convicted Sagar Prusty, Sanjay Khuntia, and Bharat Sahoo for their involvement in the crime.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on each of them. In case they fail to pay the fine, they will have to serve an additional two years in prison. It was revealed during the investigation that the victim's brother, Ganeswar Parija, had filed a missing persons report at the Khandagiri police station when his brother went missing.
The police discovered that the three convicts had plotted and executed the murder over a financial dispute. In an attempt to destroy evidence, they had cut the body into pieces and disposed of them at different locations. They even abandoned the vehicle used in the crime near a railway station to throw off the investigators.
However, the police eventually caught them and they were remanded to judicial custody. The verdict has brought some closure to the family and friends of the victim, who have been waiting for justice for over a decade. The court's decision serves as a reminder that no one is above the law and that such heinous crimes will not be tolerated.
It also highlights the importance of proper investigation and thorough examination of evidence in ensuring justice is served.
