In two separate incidents that occurred on Saturday, three people lost their lives and one was severely injured in road accidents in the districts of Subarnapur and Keonjhar. The first incident took place late at night in Subarnapur, when a passenger bus collided with an unknown truck near Haradkhol village on NH57. Sadly, both the driver and the helper of the bus, Dambarudhara Swain and Shibaram Gouda, lost their lives in the accident. Dambarudhara was a 53-year-old resident of Bhubaneswar, while Shibaram hailed from Badangi village in Ganjam district.
According to reports, the bus named 'Pradhan' was carrying over 40 passengers and was en route to Cuttack from Jeypore when the collision occurred. Thankfully, all the passengers escaped unharmed. The police from Haradkhol outpost were immediately informed and they reached the spot to take charge of the situation. The bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem to Sonepur district headquarters hospital and the bus was seized for further investigation. A case has been registered at Sonepur police station.
In a separate incident that happened in Keonjhar on the same night, a woman lost her life and her son was critically injured in a road accident. The woman, Shankari Munda, was 45 years old and her son, Bijay Munda, was severely injured. They were on their way back home on a bike when a speeding SUV hit them from behind at Baunsuli Hanuman Chhak on Baunsuli Ukhunda road under Patana block. The SUV then fled towards Ukhunda.
Fortunately, the locals were able to rescue the mother-son duo and they were immediately rushed to the Keonjhar district headquarters hospital in an ambulance. Tragically, Shankari could not survive and was declared dead by the doctors. The police from Turumunga were informed about the incident and they have begun an investigation into the matter.
