The trailer for Assassin's Creed Shadows shows exactly what you would anticipate in terms of gameplay.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an assassin in the world of Assassin's Creed? Well, Ubisoft has given us a taste of that with their latest gameplay reveal for Assassin's Creed Shadows. And if that wasn't exciting enough, they also made a promise for a new Prince Of Persia game set to release in 2026.

But with the Ubisoft Forward event on Monday, it seems like this year's not-E3 preview season has come to an end. Of course, we still have the Nintendo Direct to look forward to later this month. However, Ubisoft was the last major event to make any big announcements. They focused mainly on two games: Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin's Creed Shadows.

There was one new game reveal though, a strategy game called Anno 117: Pax Romana. But the most surprising news came from the announcement that the Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time remake won't be released until 2026. This makes sense, considering the recent news that development has been restarted from scratch once again.

But let's get back to the main focus of the event, Assassin's Creed Shadows. We were treated to over 20 minutes of gameplay footage, split between two characters: samurai Yasuke and ninja Naoe. The footage showed Yasuke wandering around town, interacting with a dog, and then embarking on a mission to take down some corrupt samurai who were terrorizing the people.

The combat in the game seems to have taken some inspiration from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, with enemy weapons flashing red or blue to indicate the type of attack coming your way. However, the colors can be distracting and it seems like the combat won't be as precise or demanding as Sekiro.

After defeating the corrupt samurai, players were given the choice to take out the local daimyo as either Yasuke or Naoe. The demo chose Naoe, and we were treated to some stealth gameplay reminiscent of the Tenchu series. Naoe sneaked around a Japanese castle, avoiding some enemies and taking out others with kunai and occasional stabbings through walls.

The actual assassination involved swimming underwater with a reed as a snorkel, incorporating every ninja cliché possible into a 10-minute sequence. It was neither better nor worse than expected, but the predictability of it all may be a concern, especially since it will inevitably be compared to Ghost Of Tsushima. However, the specific similarities between the two games are actually quite limited.

Despite Japan's significant influence on the gaming industry, there is surprisingly little competition in the samurai/ninja genre. But in the context of other Assassin's Creed games, Shadows seems like it won't disappoint. The game is set to release on November 15 for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

One thing that did stand out in the gameplay footage was Yasuke's combat style. It didn't seem as refined as one might expect from a skilled assassin. But only time will tell if this will be an issue in the final game.

But that's not all, there's another Assassin's Creed game in the works set to release in 2026. In this game, players will have the opportunity to play as a witch's cat. How cool is that?
