The top 100 cities for food have been announced, but Brits may not be pleased with the results.
The latest ranking of the world's best food has brought some disappointing news for British cuisine. Despite the fact that many Brits will argue that there is plenty of delicious food to be found across the country, the top 50 best cities for food did not include any British cities. London, often regarded as one of the best cities in the world, and home to some incredible restaurants, did not make the cut until number 90 on the list. Surprisingly, it was the only spot in the UK to make it into the top 100 of the TasteAtlas Awards 2024/25.

Unsurprisingly, Italy dominated the top 10 rankings with its famous pasta, pizza, meats, cheeses, and wine. Naples took the crown for the best city for food, followed by Milan and Bologna. Other Italian cities like Florence, Rome, and Turin also made it into the top 10. Outside of Italy, Mumbai, Paris, and Vienna rounded out the list.

The rankings were based on over 477,000 food ratings for nearly 15,500 different foods in the TasteAtlas database. Out of the 17,073 cities in the database, the top 100 were selected based on their high average ratings for regional and national dishes commonly served there.

London, coming in at 90th place, was still recognized for its quintessential British dishes like fish and chips, afternoon tea, and a traditional fry-up. TasteAtlas also recommended some of the best gourmet food producers in the city, such as William Curley chocolate, Rococo Chocolates, Brindisa, Diageo, and Quintessential Brands. Iconic traditional spots like St John Bread & Wine, a Michelin star restaurant specializing in nose-to-tail cooking, also received a nod.

While London may not have impressed in the food rankings, two of its landmarks were recently named as some of the best buildings in the world. Battersea Power Station and The Shard were recognized as two of the top 10 most important buildings and infrastructures in the world. The Burj Khalifa in Dubai took the top spot, followed by DXB Airport, also in Dubai. Battersea Power Station, with its history of supplying electricity to London, came in 7th place. The Shard, known for transforming London's skyline and being the tallest building in the UK, came in 9th place.

The Tomorrow Building World Congress, which created the list, highlighted the unique features of these two landmarks. Battersea Power Station, with its preserved original elements and a chimney accessible for panoramic views, has garnered nearly 700,000 Google searches and achieved a score of 2.71 in the ranking. The Shard, with its multiple uses including residential apartments, a hotel, office space, and various restaurants and bars, has attracted one million tourists in its first year and gained 900,000 mentions on Instagram.
