In the bustling city of Amaravati, the results of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections are causing quite a stir. The National Democratic Alliance, riding on an anti-establishment wave, is sweeping the polls according to the latest counting trends. In an overwhelming majority, the Telugu Desam Party-led alliance is currently leading in 137 out of the 175 constituencies, while the ruling YSR Congress Party is only ahead in 23. TDP alone has secured a lead in 116 segments, with Jana Sena Party, led by the popular actor-politician Pawan Kalyan, following behind with a lead in 15 constituencies. The Bharatiya Janata Party is also making its mark, ahead in six segments.
As the results continue to pour in, it is evident that Chief Minister and YSRCP President Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and TDP President and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu are both leading in their respective constituencies of Pulivendula and Kuppam. Pawan Kalyan is also making his presence known, leading in the Pithapuram Assembly constituency. Additionally, JSP political affairs committee Chairman Nadendla Manohar has taken the lead in the Tenali constituency, further solidifying the alliance's strong position.
Meanwhile, in the Mangalagiri constituency, TDP General Secretary Nara Lokesh, son of Chandrababu Naidu, is also leading. The TDP-led alliance has dominated in all three regions - north coastal Andhra, south coastal Andhra, and Rayalaseema. With the exception of Jagan Mohan Reddy's home district Kadapa, the alliance is on track to secure a sweeping victory in all other districts. In fact, the majority of the ministers are trailing behind in their respective constituencies, a clear indication of the alliance's strong hold over the state.
The NDA is not only dominating in the Assembly elections, but also in the Lok Sabha polls, leading in 20 out of 25 seats. The TDP is currently ahead in 15 seats, with the BJP and JSP taking the lead in three and two seats respectively. On the other hand, YSRCP candidates are leading in five Lok Sabha constituencies. These results are a testament to the heavy voter turnout of 82.73 per cent, recorded during the simultaneous elections for the Assembly and Lok Sabha on May 13.
In the previous 2019 elections, the YSRCP had secured a landslide victory, winning 151 of the 175 Assembly seats with a 49.95 per cent vote share. The TDP, with 39.17 per cent of the votes, could only secure 23 seats, while the remaining seats went to Jana Sena. In the Lok Sabha elections, YSRCP also emerged victorious, winning 22 seats, with the TDP securing the remaining three. The BJP and Congress, on the other hand, failed to secure any seats in both the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.
This time around, the state witnessed a direct fight between YSRCP and the NDA, comprising of TDP, Jana Sena, and BJP. As per the seat-sharing agreement, the TDP contested 144 Assembly and 17 Lok Sabha seats, while the JSP fielded candidates in 21 Assembly and two Lok Sabha constituencies. The BJP contested 10 Assembly and six Lok Sabha seats. In total, 2,387 candidates are in the fray for the Assembly elections, while 454 candidates are vying for the 25 Lok Sabha seats. The Congress, on the other hand, fielded candidates in 159 Assembly and 23 Lok Sabha constituencies, leaving the remaining seats for its allies CPI and CPI-M, who unfortunately are not leading in any constituency.
