The Talcher-Bimalagarh railway connection is getting closer to becoming a reality.
Excitement and optimism are in the air in Rourkela as the much-awaited Talcher-Bimalagarh railway link shows signs of progress. The first phase of the project, which includes the 32-km Bimalagarh-Mhauldhipa railway line, has recently received fresh tenders worth Rs 500 crore. With only 6.5 km of land left to be acquired, the project is finally moving forward after facing many challenges and setbacks.
According to sources within the Revenue Department, the remaining land acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of September. To ensure a smooth process, a dedicated office will be set up in Boani soon. However, it should be noted that around 76 acres of private land could not be obtained by the Railways due to various reasons. These cases will be addressed on August 14 in the LARA court, and it is hoped that all obstacles related to land acquisition will be resolved.
Bimal Bisi, the President of Sachetan Nagarik Manch, who has been tirelessly advocating for this project, expressed his gratitude towards Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. In a letter written on June 18, 2024, to the state Revenue Department, Bisi had enquired about the progress of land acquisition in Deogarh, Angul, and Sundargarh districts. Following this, the additional secretary of the Revenue department had instructed the Collectors of these districts to expedite the process. Bisi is confident that once the acquisition for the 32-km stretch is completed, it will pave the way for further progress. He also acknowledged the efforts of Pranabandhu Sahu, former CMO of East Coast Railway, in this matter.
The development of the Talcher-Bimalagarh railway link has been a long and challenging journey, but with the recent developments, it seems like we are finally heading towards the finish line. The people of Rourkela are hopeful and eagerly waiting for the railway line to become a reality, which will bring about significant economic and social benefits to the region. It is a momentous occasion, and we are grateful to all those who have been working tirelessly to make it happen.
