The OPCC is requesting Sofia Firdous to step down if she does not support the ideology of Congress.

Bhubaneswar: Bhakta Charan Das, OPCC president, urges MLA Sofia Firdous to resign if she disagrees with Congress values; Firdous plans to run with OJC in 2029 elections.

The OPCC is requesting Sofia Firdous to step down if she does not support the ideology of Congress.

In a recent development, Bhakta Charan Das, the president of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee, has urged suspended MLA Sofia Firdous to consider resigning from her position if her beliefs and principles no longer align with those of the Congress party. This statement comes as a response to Firdous' father and former MLA Mohammed Moquim's announcement that his daughter will be contesting the 2029 elections on an Odisha Janata Congress ticket. It is important to note that the OJC was founded by Moquim after he was expelled from the Congress party.

He had raised concerns about the efficiency of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge due to his age and had also expressed dissatisfaction with the working style of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. In light of this, Moquim has stated that Firdous will not be contesting from the Congress party in the upcoming elections as it no longer follows any clear principles or ideology. While Firdous has not yet made a statement regarding her father's decision, Das has publicly addressed the issue, questioning why Firdous and her father are waiting until 2029 to make this shift.

He also brings up the fact that Firdous had previously spoken about women's empowerment while a member of the Congress, but her recent actions, such as voting for a BJP candidate in the Rajya Sabha election, show that her father is now dictating her political decisions. It is worth mentioning that Firdous was one of three Congress MLAs who were suspended from the party for indiscipline and for casting their votes in favor of a BJP-supported candidate in the March 16 Rajya Sabha elections. Firdous, who was elected for the first time from the Barabati-Cuttack assembly segment, has followed in her father's footsteps as the seat was previously held by him.

In response to these developments, Moquim has openly criticized the Congress party, claiming that it has deviated from its core ideology and has no future in the state or the country. This statement reflects his disappointment with the party and its current state. It remains to be seen what actions Sofia Firdous will take in light of her father's decision and the public statements made by both Bhakta Charan Das and Mohammed Moquim.
