According to sources at Raj Niwas, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, has suggested an NIA investigation into the alleged political funding received by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from the banned terrorist group 'Sikhs for Justice'. The recommendation was made on Monday, causing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to claim that it is yet another ploy by the BJP to conspire against Kejriwal.
The Lt Governor's office received a complaint stating that the AAP, under Kejriwal's leadership, had received a staggering $16 million from extremist Khalistani groups. The alleged funding was supposedly given in exchange for the release of Devendra Pal Bhullar, who is currently serving a life sentence in Amritsar Central Jail for his involvement in a 1993 bomb blast in Delhi that claimed nine lives. The designated TADA court had initially sentenced him to death, but the Supreme Court later commuted it to life imprisonment.
Sources reveal that Saxena, in a letter to the Union Home Secretary, stated that the complaint provided electronic evidence that requires further investigation, including forensic examination. The letter also highlighted that the accused in question is the chief minister of Delhi and the allegations pertain to receiving political funding from a banned terrorist organization.
The timing of this recommendation is significant as it comes a day before the Supreme Court's hearing on granting interim bail to Kejriwal, who has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case related to the excise policy. The complaint also refers to a video released by Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, where he claims that the AAP had received $16 million from Khalistani groups between 2014 and 2022.
The complainant also alleges that during Kejriwal's visit to New York in 2014, he had secret meetings with Khalistani leaders at Gurudwara Richmond Hills. It is further claimed that Kejriwal promised to secure Bhullar's release in exchange for substantial financial support from Khalistani factions to the AAP. In addition, a former AAP worker, Munish Kumar Raizada, shared photos of Kejriwal's supposed meeting with Khalistani leaders on social media.
Responding to this development, Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj of the AAP called it another attempt by the BJP to conspire against Kejriwal, as they fear losing all seven seats in Delhi in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Bhullar, who had been transferred to Amritsar Central Jail from Tihar Jail in 2015 due to health reasons, continues to serve his sentence.
