Gonicoppa; The Deputy commissioner, Ms. Anees Kanmani Joy, on Tuesday inspected remote villages in, Virajpet taluk. The DC visited east nemmale, west nemmale, Beeruga, Kurchi, Birunani, Teralu, and Parakatakeri villages, inspected damages caused by wild elephants. The DC collected information from forest officers. The DC has visited, following an appeal by the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene to listen to the problems faced by villagers. Hasiru sene district unit secretary, Ajjamada Changappa explained to the DC that, everyday wild elephants are destroying lakhs of Rupees of paddy, areacanut, coffee, banana and other crops. He said the forest department is providing a meagre compensation, farmers are suffering a lot owing to less price for agriculture produce and elephant menace. The DC instructed forest officers to repair the solar fence to prevent entry of wild elephants to the villages.
