The CEO of Odisha has declared a compensation of Rs 15 lakh for a polling official who died in a car crash.
Bhubaneswar: In the wake of a tragic event, Odisha's Chief Electoral Officer NB Dhal announced on Sunday that the family of a government employee who passed away while on election duty will receive a compensation of Rs 15 lakh in accordance with the guidelines set by the Election Commission of India.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Saturday when Alekh Randhari, a class-IV employee at a government school, was involved in a road accident near Swami Vivekananda Vidyamandir in the Nabarangpur district. He was on his way to a polling station for Monday's elections.

In a separate incident, a bus carrying polling personnel and EVMs overturned near Pitatali in Ganjam district on Saturday. Thankfully, all 14 polling staff members and the EVM machines were unharmed. According to SP Sarthak Sarangi, the polling staff were on their way to Kharriaguda in the Chikiti Assembly segment when the accident occurred. They were later transported to their assigned booths in Khariaguda in another vehicle. Police believe that the driver lost control of the bus while navigating a curve on the road.

Despite these unfortunate circumstances, the polling staff and EVMs were not harmed and have been secured. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and injured. The Election Commission will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of all individuals involved in the election process.
