The Art Fair draws its inspiration from the natural world.
Around two dozen fresh exhibitors are taking part in this weekend's Borders Art Fair, with eleven of the newbies hailing from the region. Emma Jones, a printmaker and painter from Chirnside, Belinda Glennon, a ceramicist from Stow, and Sara Rhys, a mixed media illustrator and artist from Duns, are among the first-time participants. Jones commented, “

We take a lot from nature but often don't feel part of it. Something you realise in a lovely area like the Borders, when running through the woods or swimming in the sea, is that you are as much a part of nature as the trees and the oceans.” Rhys added, “I will be displaying a selection of tiny sketches from a project I'm developing, depicting the 70 birds marked as critically endangered in the UK and a few paintings. My work normally comes from nature and often has a touch of the absurd, much like me.” Glennon chimed in, “Everything I make is inspired by Harris, the beauty of its coasts and seascapes.

It was where my grandparents lived and we'd go there for our summer holidays – the people's warmth and culture remain with me.” Over 70 artists, makers, and galleries will showcase works such as landscape and wildlife paintings, animal sculptures, botanical castings, ceramics, and stone carvings at the fair, which starts on Friday at the Borders Events Centre in Kelso and runs till Sunday.
