Bhubaneswar has been experiencing scorching hot weather for the past few days, but there is good news on the horizon. The weather bureau has predicted a significant drop in temperature over the next 48 hours, giving some much-needed relief to the residents of the state. The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department, situated here, has informed us that the sea winds from the Bay of Bengal will bring respite from the heatwave conditions, resulting in a drastic decrease in temperature across the state. We could already feel the signs of this change in weather today, as the maximum temperature in the city was recorded at 41.6 degrees Celsius. However, the situation was much worse in the interiors, with Boudh reporting the highest temperature in the state at a scorching 44.6 degrees Celsius.
One of the weather scientists, Mr. Das, has informed us that we can expect normal to below normal temperatures in various parts of the state from May 5 onwards. He also mentioned that the dryness in the air has been caused by a western disturbance in north-east India, which has drawn out the moisture and reduced the humidity levels. Thankfully, this dry spell will come to an end soon, as rain and thundershower activities are expected between May 7 and 11, which will further aid in bringing down the heat. In fact, the IMD has predicted a thunderstorm with lightning in some parts of south Odisha districts on Saturday.
As per their forecast, a thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput districts on May 4. However, the weatherman has also warned that heatwave conditions will prevail in Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Boudh, Bolangir, Subarnapur, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda on Saturday, issuing a yellow warning in this regard. The IMD has reported that heatwave conditions were observed in some parts of Bolangir, Boudh, Nuapada, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Keonjhar, and Nayagarh in the last 24 hours. On the other hand, there was some relief in the form of light to moderate rainfall in Ganjam, Malkangiri, Rayagada, and Khurda districts during the same period.
According to the weatherman, there won't be any significant change in the maximum temperature over the next three days. However, we can expect a drop of three to four degrees Celsius in many places in the state thereafter. This news has brought a sense of relief to the residents of Bhubaneswar and the entire state, as they eagerly await the arrival of cooler weather. Let's hope that the predicted rain and thundershowers bring much-needed relief from the scorching heatwave conditions.
