Last night in Melbourne, three teenage boys found themselves in trouble with the law after a police chase. It all started with an attempted car theft on Lawson Street in Essendon around 1:30am. A witness saw a blue Mazda CX5 at the scene and quickly informed the police. The car was then spotted on Albert Street in Preston at 1:45am.
According to reports, the Mazda didn't stop for the police and even evaded them when they called in the air wing. Footage from the police air wing showed the car driving near a park on Heritage Drive in Springvale. At one point, one of the teens got out of the car and tried to get into another vehicle. The police were quick to chase him down and make an arrest, but the Mazda managed to speed off.
The car was then seen driving up and down the Monash Freeway before exiting onto a main road. The police were able to stop the car using stop sticks on Springvale Road in Brandon Park at around 2:45am. Three youths were arrested at the scene.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the Mazda was stolen from a recreation reserve in Bentleigh on June 23. As a result, two 13-year-old boys were charged with theft of motor vehicle and will have to appear in a children's court at a later date. A 15-year-old boy from Dandenong North was charged with theft of motor vehicle, dealing with property suspected to be proceeds of crime, and traffic offences. He too will have to appear in a children's court at a later date.
The remaining 13-year-old boy from Hampton Park was given a caution and released. It's unfortunate to see young individuals getting involved in such illegal activities, but it's reassuring to know that the police were able to catch them and bring them to justice. Let's hope this serves as a lesson for these boys and they make better choices in the future.
