Teen killed for suspected cow trading; BNSS Section 163 enforced
On a Sunday in Khurda, a violent incident occurred that left the community on edge. In broad daylight, a group of troublemakers chased and brutally attacked a young man at Chachra Sabar Sahi Square near Jatni by-pass road. In a separate incident, another youth was also assaulted and left in critical condition at Mukundaprasad Square before the attackers fled the scene. The deceased was identified as Md. Sajid, also known as Saju, from Mukundaprasad's Malisahi area, and the injured youth was identified as Zahir Ahmed from Taraboi.

The family was alerted and quickly came to the aid of Sajid, who was gravely injured. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and then transferred to a hospital in Bhubaneswar, but tragically passed away on the way. The news of the young man's murder spread rapidly, causing tension to rise in the area. Sajid's family brought his body to Mukundaprasad Square and staged a protest by blocking the road and setting tires on fire. The situation escalated as an angry mob destroyed over 20 motorcycles in Poda Sahi and Dadhibaman Sahi in Mukundprasad. They also attacked two cows at a nearby Goshala and even entered houses, assaulting family members inside.

The police were immediately alerted and arrived at the scene, attempting to disperse the crowd. However, their efforts were unsuccessful in calming the situation. Khurda Collector Chanchal Rana and SP Avinash Kumar were informed and arrived shortly after to speak with the agitated people. The police sent the victim's body for post-mortem and registered a murder case based on a complaint filed by the victim's brother. In order to maintain law and order, five platoons of armed police were deployed in the area, and Sub-Collector Deeptiranjan Sethi imposed a prohibition order in ward no-1, 2, 3, 21, and 22 under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

The community was shaken by this tragic incident, and as a precautionary measure, all businesses, except for medicine and provision stores, were instructed to close indefinitely. Later, DGP YB Khurania, ADG RK Sharma, ADG Soumendra Priyadarshi, IG Sanjay Kumar, and DIG Jugal Kishore arrived at the scene to assess the situation and urged everyone to remain peaceful. Sources revealed that this unfortunate event was a result of an ongoing dispute between two groups of youths over alleged cattle trafficking.
