Taraji P. Henson started her haircare line out of her own need, not just for herself, but for others.
Taraji P. Henson, the Oscar-nominated actor, never thought running her own haircare line would be part of her story. But when she opened up to LA Times about her personal hair journey, it became clear why the 2020 launch of TPH by Taraji was so important to her.

Henson recalled the first time she had to do her own hair, and how it left her in tears. Even when she was on set for the movie "Baby Boy" in 2001, her relaxed hair needed a touch-up and she was embarrassed for the stylist to see her roots.

It wasn't until she had a positive experience at a salon owned by another Hollywood stylist that she began to fall in love with her natural hair. At the age of 30, she decided to go natural. This is when the challenge of finding a product that would clean her scalp while wearing her protective styles motivated her to create her own concoction.

Henson knew how important scalp health was and wanted to give other women the same relief she had. She tested her concoction during a vacation with a friend, who was also dealing with an itchy scalp under her weave. This became the blueprint for TPH's master cleanse scalp wash.

Henson is inspired by the other Black women who have also broken into the haircare market. She has seen the economic power that they are proving with their brands, and with the natural hair commercials that have been created.

TPH by Taraji offers a range of products made to improve scalp health and all hair textures. The line features shampoos, scalp masks, curl creams, hair strengthening products, and a collection of products that use apple cider vinegar to remove build-up. All of the products are made without parabens or sulfates and are available at different stores such as Walmart, Sally Beauty, Target, CVS and Walgreens.

Henson is proud of the work she has done with her haircare line, as well as her Mental Health Initiative for Women at Hampton University. She hopes that her products and her work will help other women discover the power and love for their own hair.
