Superintendent Ed Condon of River Forest announces retirement strategy.
After years of dedicated service, Ed Condon, the superintendent of River Forest School District 90, has announced his retirement. He shared the news with the District 90 Board of Education at their meeting on December 17th.

Condon, who has been with the district for over 35 years, expressed his belief that it is time for new leadership to take over and for him to explore other opportunities that may interest him. He was hired in 2011 after serving as the principal of Butler Junior High School in Oak Brook for eight years. Condon's passion for education began as a high school social studies teacher in Virginia after earning his bachelor's degree in history from the University of Richmond.

During his time at District 90, Condon has achieved numerous accomplishments such as facility improvements, curriculum changes, implementing full day kindergarten, and enhancing security and safety protocols. He takes great pride in the district's focus on teaching and learning, and is especially proud of the quality of the teachers and administrators.

With Condon at the helm, District 90 has not had a tax increase referendum since 2006, which he attributes to the responsible decision-making of the Board of Education and leadership team. Last year, all three schools in the district received an exemplary rating from the state, placing them in the top 10% of Illinois public schools.

Martha Ryan-Toye, superintendent of Riverside Elementary School District 96, has worked closely with Condon for five years and describes him as kind, intelligent, and dedicated. She believes that he has been a steady hand for River Forest and has effectively engaged the community and staff.

Condon, who is currently 55 years old, will retire on June 20, 2026, after completing his five year contract. He remains committed to supporting excellent teaching and learning in the district and will continue to oversee initiatives such as the school improvement process, the new English Language Arts curriculum, and the Equity Action Plan.

As he looks ahead to his retirement, Condon is grateful for the opportunity to work alongside the finest faculty, staff, and administrative team in service of the exceptional students and families of River Forest. Bob Skolnik, a freelance reporter for Pioneer Press, contributed to this story.
