Start Indian Social Service and demand Padmashri Awardees at the two-day Social Worker Conference.
Ujjain: On Saturday, a two-day social worker conference was inaugurated at Ankitgram, Sevadham Ashram to honor those devoted to service and to make the world aware of their efforts. Padmashri recipients Bhikuram Idate Dada, Umashankar Pandey, Vidya Vindu, BS Shankaranand, and Rishi Bhatnagar lit the lamp together to mark the start of the conference.

In the inaugural session, Umashankar Pandey spoke about how even the Ramayana mentions that service is the most difficult task. Shankaranand said that the gap between words and actions must be closed. He added that those who serve bring light to the entire society. Bhatnagar described Sevadham as a pilgrimage site for human service and said that the seeds of social service should be planted in the family from birth.

The second session was moderated by Anuradh Krishna, a software consultant from TCS. The academics and Padmashri awardees from all over the country demanded that the Government of India should start a similar institution for social service similar to the IAS and APS Academy. They said that the country needs as many people devoted to social service as those in the administrative sector.

Padmashri Bhiku Ram Idate, Bharat Bhai Patni, Dr Sandeep Sancheti, Dr Dipti Kotasthane, Shekhar Sanyal, Dr Ajay Rana, and Dr Kamlesh Raghuvanshi, who were all present in the session, said that social service should be made part of the children's curriculum from the start. They suggested that every child should be given nursing and social service training for at least 15 days.

The third session of the conference was focused on how academic institutions can contribute to social service. Shankaranand said that social service brings spiritual happiness and that incidents of social service should be taught in schools for 5 minutes every day.

The concluding session was about the role of religious institutions in social service. Anand Gaur conducted the session. Anaam Prem from Mumbai, Maharishi Dutt Rajan, and social worker Mehul Sanghvi shared their thoughts and discussed how religious institutions can play a part in social service.

Host Sudhir Bhai announced that the DNT Foundation will be launched on November 26 in the second session of the conference. Governor Mangubhai Patel will be the chief guest at the event. The programme will also honor social workers from various parts of the country.
