STA plans meeting to properly assign vehicles for upcoming election on schedule.
The State Transport department in Bhubaneswar is working diligently to adhere to the directives of the Chief Election Commissioner for the smooth conduct of the general elections. Recently, a meeting was held by the State Transport Commissioner, Amitabh Thakur, with high-ranking officials from the State Transport Authority and Regional Transport Officers. Thanks to technology, the meeting was conducted through video conferencing.

The main focus of the meeting was to ensure the timely deployment of vehicles that have been assigned for election purposes. The department places great importance on careful planning and addressing any issues that may arise in the vehicle arrangement system. "We want to make sure everything runs smoothly," an official stated.

The current status of vehicle requisitions from different regions was evaluated based on the information provided to the STA. As a result, the Commissioner has instructed a thorough check and reassessment of the vehicle requirements, considering the specific needs of each region.

Thakur expressed that the department has taken into consideration past election experiences and suggestions from staff to boost morale and enthusiasm among vehicle owners and those participating in the election process. During the 2019 elections, a total of 58,000 vehicles were requisitioned statewide. The department is currently in the process of determining the number of vehicles needed for the ongoing elections to expedite the requisition process, as directed by Thakur.

In addition, it has been emphasized that the appointed vehicle staff will receive daily expenditure in advance for their duties. This instruction was given by the principal secretary of the Commerce & Transport department, Usha Padhee, to all District Collectors. "Each bus and four-wheeler driver, conductor, or assistant staff will receive a daily allowance of Rs. 500, and two-wheeler drivers will receive Rs. 250," Padhee informed.

Overall, the State Transport department is dedicated to ensuring a seamless and efficient election process by carefully planning and addressing any issues that may arise. The timely deployment and reassessment of vehicles, along with providing daily expenditure to staff, demonstrates their commitment to this important task. Let us all work together to make these elections a success.
