Sprite honors hip-hop's 50th anniversary by collaborating with top stars of the genre.
Sprite is proud to announce its celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop culture. To commemorate the groundbreaking genre, Sprite is rolling out a series of exclusive merchandise and experiences, a limited-edition flavor, and a star-studded TV spot.

The commercial will feature Nas, Rakim, Latto, and GloRilla as they pay tribute to the past, present, and future of hip-hop. It will be set to a remix of The Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight”, the first-ever rap song to hit the Billboard Top 40.

According to A.P. Chaney, Creative Director for Sprite North America, the brand has long supported hip-hop culture. “We took a chance on hip-hop before it was cool, and have always been of the culture, not only for the culture,” he said.

Sprite has also created the limited-time-only Sprite Lymonade Legacy. This remixed nod to the OG crisp, lemon-lime refresher is a combination of both tried-and-true and something new - a strawberry lemonade flavor inspired by fan requests on social media. It will be available in a range of packages at retailers nationwide, and exclusively in fountain and frozen formats at 7-Eleven stores.

The packaging for both Original Sprite and Sprite Lymonade Legacy will feature a design honoring 50 years of hip-hop. It will take cues from summertime and hip-hop’s journey, including boomboxes, studio mixers, and other tech tools.

Fans can scan on-pack QR codes to access digital “drop shops” with hundreds of giveaways. Prizes include exclusive content featuring Latto and Rakim, autographed Nas hats, GloRilla tour tees, a Latto gold mic, and Rakim directorial slates from the TVC shoot.

Sprite is also the lead beverage sponsor of Drake's “It’s All A Blur” summer tour, offering Rolling Loud Lifetime Passes and meet-and-greet tickets. The partnership between Drake and Sprite dates back to 2012, with his first worldwide deal being the “Spark” multinational campaign.

Sprite’s ties to hip-hop culture go all the way back to 1986, when rapper Kurtis Blow was featured in their “Now More Than Ever” ad. Sprite has embraced hip-hop’s next generation of stars in their advertising in the aughts, and in 2013 released their “Obey Your Verse” campaign, decorating Sprite cans with some of the most inspirational lyrics of 2Pac, Missy Elliott, J. Cole, Drake, and Rakim.

This summer, Sprite is honoring all that hip-hop has been, is, and will be, with its “Summer of Drops” campaign. They are offering fans experiences and products in the areas of music, fashion, art, and entertainment, drawing inspiration from sneakerhead drop culture. It’s sure to be an exciting summer for all hip-hop fans!
