Spotted deer population is putting the Pench Tiger Reserve's ecosystem under strain.
Pench Tiger Reserve in Bhopal is taking steps to save its ecosystem, which has become disbalanced due to the high density of spotted deer, by translocating 16 Spotted Deer to Satpura Tiger Reserve in Narmadapuram and 10 Spotted Deer to Kuno National Park. A senior officer of Pench Tiger Reserve informed Free Press that their reserve has around 45,000 to 50,000 spotted deer inside.

"The large number of spotted deer is putting too much strain on the natural resources, including the fauna, of our reserve. We are therefore transferring the spotted deer to other national parks in the state to help them increase their herbivore population, which is necessary for the survival of the carnivores," he said.

So far, Pench Tiger Reserve has translocated 3,051 spotted deer to other national parks, such as Satpura Tiger Reserve, Nauradehi Tiger Reserve, Kuno National Park, and Khandwa. Out of these 3,051 spotted deer, 1,877 were sent to Satpura Tiger Reserve, 660 to Nauradehi Tiger Reserve, 493 to Kuno National Park, and 21 to Khandwa. It is a matter of pride for Pench Tiger Reserve that it is the reserve with the highest population of spotted deer in the state. These spotted deer were caught from six different enclosures, namely Sapat Boma, Turia Boma, Alikatta Boma, Mahadev Ghat, Chedia Boma, and Baragreet Boma.
