Sounds from the depths of the ocean hinting at potential life have been detected during the search for the Titanic's missing sub.
This morning, search teams heard noises below the surface while searching for the missing tourist submarine, Titan, which was travelling towards the Titanic wreckage. Signs of life have been detected and the vessel, which is 6.7 metres long, is carrying five people including British billionaire adventurer, Hamish Harding, and his crew.

The US Coast Guard estimated that the submarine has just 40 hours of oxygen left and those on board include Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman, OceanGate Expeditions chief executive Stockton Rush and French submersible pilot Paul-Henry Nargeolet.

Rescue teams are now in a race against time to locate the vessel, which was last heard from on Sunday 435 miles south of St John’s, Newfoundland. According to the vessel’s operator, OceanGate Expeditions, the crew has a maximum oxygen supply of 96 hours - now down to their final 40 hours.

A major search and rescue operation is being led by the US Coast Guard and is being supported by Canadian P-3 aircraft. The aircraft have detected underwater noises in the search area and have relocated their ROV operations to investigate the origin of the noises. However, the searches have so far produced negative results. The data from the P-3 aircraft has been shared with US Navy experts for further analysis to be considered in future search plans.

The vessel, Titan, is designed to explore the depths of the ocean and the crew is travelling to visit the famous shipwreck, the Titanic. Alongside British billionaire Hamish Harding, the submarine is also carrying Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, his son Suleman, OceanGate Expeditions chief executive Stockton Rush and French submersible pilot Paul-Henry Nargeolet.

The search for the Titan submarine continues as rescue teams work against the clock to find the missing vessel. For the latest news updates, follow The Agency on Twitter and Facebook. You can also get The Agency articles sent straight to your device - simply sign up for our daily push alerts here.
